A “Walk Through
the Bush” was hosted by Riddells Creek Landcare through Barrm Birr m (the hill
that provides the backdrop to Riddells Creek).
Using the
Riddells Creek Landcare Flora ID book “Macedon Range Flora” based on this area,
we identified the local flora, one of the best wildflower areas this close to Melbourne with
numerous rare plant species, including the Hairy-leaved Trigger-plant, 28
orchid species, and much more.
Russell Best also
discussed the 'Bushfood of Barmm Birrm'. Around 50 plant species in Barrm Birrm
can provide food (some are still used in today’s bushfood industry) plus many
other plant uses (including for tools, medicine and poison).
