Riddells Creek Landcare - Growing Sustainable Gardens

Growing Sustainable Gardens

The first Growing Sustainable Gardens Day was held on Nov 12 2005 organised jointly by Clarkefield Landcare, Greening of Riddell (GoR) and Riddells Creek Landcare. It was a great success with a good attendance, lots of useful information available to attendees, a table with examples of many local weeds (hand picked locally that morning) and people brought along weeds for identification - and I think we managed to name all but two!

Then GoR has won a grant on behalf of the three organising groups to develop a substantial weeds brochure focussing on garden escapees and possible alternative plants to replace them with (see right; plus the 2-page weeds brochure that we used as a starting point for this process).

In 2005 we also launched a weed-mapping exercise with a massive (A0-size) map of the Riddell area and individuals adding to it with any known weed infestations they knew about - see the weed map developed from this day.

Eutaxia obovata is a beautiful garden alternative for broom.
