Beetles (including Weevils) are insects that make up the Order Coleoptera. There are over 28,000
Beetle species in Australia (many more than plant species) making it extremely difficult to accurately
ID them even down to family level. There are estimated to be 8,000 Weevils in Australia alone!

A good general book about insects, covering Beetles, is "A Field Guide to Insects in Australia" by Paul
Zborowski & Ross Storey. Though very technical, a good book about Beetles is: "Australian Beetles" by
John Lawrence.

We'd like to acknowledge Kimberi Pullen and Wendy Moore for their help in
identifying the beetles on this page.

If you've seen a Beetle in Riddells Creek that isn't on this list please let us know
