Ants are insects (Class Insecta) in the Order Hymenoptera (along with Bees, Wasps and Sawflies).
There are about about 3,000 ant species in Australia!

First Aid for Ant, Bee and Wasp stings. Many ants are aggressive, especially Jack Jumpers and Bull Ants.
The literature suggests more people are killed in Tasmania (via allergic reaction) from the bite of Jack
Jumpers than by sharks, spiders, bees and wasps combined.

We haven't yet found a good website to ID Ants. If you find one let us know.
